Itanagar during summers could be a little hot but still manageable with temperatures ranging from 20°c - 35°c. Summers in hilly ranges are best to go for a leisure day out near the riverfront. And also during this season you can visit tourist interest places like Ganga Lake, Ita Fort, Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Namdapha National Park, Polo Park to name a few.

MONSOONS IN ITANAGAR: JULY TO SEPTEMBER

Monsoon in Itanagar is very pleasant with cool breeze and rain drops that sprinkle on your face. During this season the temperatures drop to 18°c - 29°c. It may not be a suitable time to visit this place but you can visit indoor places like Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, Gompa, Craft Centre and Emporium.

WINTERS IN ITANAGAR: OCT TO MARCH

EVENTS/FESTIVALS IN ITANAGAR

Various festivals are celebrated in this city as it has rich culture and tradition. Losar is a festival in Itanagar that is celebrated as a New Year of the Monpas. This festival is celebrated for 5 days continuously and people host religious flags on the top of their house.

Reh: It is a festival which is the festival of the Idu Mishimis. Priest dance is the main attraction of this festival and people offer prayers to the Water God and Earth God.

Mopin: It is another famous festival in Itanagar which is celebrated usually in the month of April.

How to Reach


The nearest airport is Lilabari in Assam, 57 km from Naharlagun and 67 km from Itanagar. Another airport is at Tezpur. The nearest railhead is North Lakhimpur in Assam, which is only 50 km from Naharlagun and 60 km from Itanagar. Itanagar is connected with other major towns in the region such as Agartala, Aizawl, Kohima, Guwahati, Imphal, and Shillong. Lilabari airport inNorth Lakhimpur is the nearest airport to the Itanagar at a distance of about 57 kilometres. Lilabari airport receives regional Air India flights from Kolkata and Guwahati.

BY RAIL :

Harmuti railway station in Assam and Naharlagun railway station in Arunachal Pradesh are the closest railway to reach Itanagar, each at a distance of 34 kilometres and 15 kilometres respectively. Naharlagun railway station being a new addition to Indian railway has two rails running to and from like New Delhi - Naharlagun AC SF Express and Naharlagun - Guwahati Inter City Express.

You can reach Itanagar via bus from Banderdewa, North Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Guwahati.
