Arunachal's rich biodiversity is its pride with orchids being one of the most precious jewels in its crown. Of the 1000 species of orchids found in India, Arunachal is home to nearly 600 species and can be rightfully called the 'Orchid Paradise' of our country. These exotic plants bloom in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes while giving immense aesthetic pleasure to their onlookers. It is located on the west bank of the Kameng River, skirted by hills shaded with semi evergreen tropical rain forests.It sprawls across an area of nearly 10hectare and comprises of:Orchid Glass House: It is made of fibre-glass roof, has a display gallery and central fountain that houses nearly 1000 exotic orchids.Species House: Four Species Houses with netlon and evergreen climber shades aid in the ex-situ conservation of nearly 10,000 specimens of orchids.Natural Orchidaria: A large number of native orchid species that get wasted in timber coupes and landslide areas are rescued and rehabilitated in these two erythyrina and teak-shaded natural orchidaria.Tissue Culture Laboratory: helps in the micro-propagation of orchid seedlings of various endangered and ornamental species.Orchid Herbarium Tipi: is home to 2770 specimens of orchids that are found in Arunachal Pradesh as well as other states.Orchid Museum: houses the orchid wealth of the state in maps, photographs, blow-ups, charts and bottle specimens.Hardening Unit: This light, temperature and humidity-controlled section helps harden plantlets for 3-6months after being de-flasked in the laboratory.

Best Time to Visit


The best time to visit is between October and February when the daytime temperature remains as low as 20 degree Celsius.
