Approximately 30 minutes from Kolkata, Belur Math that is located on the right bank of River Hoogly is a temple that is notable for exhibiting Hindu, Christian and Islamic motifs as a symbol of unity of all religions. It was founded by Swami Vivekananda who was a chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The Sri Ramkrishna Temple resembles a temple, a mosque, a church if seen from different positions and the Swami Vivekananda Temple stands on the spot where Swami Vivekananda’s mortal remains were cremated in 1902. It also houses several other temples dedicated to Sarada Devi and Swami Brahmananda respectively. In addition the museum exhibits the artifacts used by Ramakrishna and Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and some of his disciples. Nonetheless one of the major places to visit in Kolkata near to Belur Math is the Dakshineshwar Temple that is dedicated to Goddess Kali.
