Regional Science Centre, Guwahati, popularly known as Science Museum, is one of the units of National Council of Science Museums functioning under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. The basic purpose of this Science Centre is to popularize Science among the people of this region. Since its inauguration on March 15 1994, this Centre has been attracting students, teachers and general public as it provides an able forum for them to learn science through interaction and fun. Apart from its permanent galleries with a number of participatory exhibits on science, this Centre organizes regular educational programmes and activities, especially for the students, in order to inculcate scientific temper in them by imparting science education in a non-formal way. The Centre is also having one Innovation Hub where children can take annual membership and do their creative activities all days except Monday under mentor. One of the most famous tourist attractions in the state of Assam, it is visited by not only kids but anybody who has an aptitude for learning. There is a prehistoric park having exhibits that are centuries old. 3D movies are played and there are many outdoor and indoor shows like magic mirror, butterfly corner, children’s corner, fun science that take place. The large aquarium which is the home to many different kinds of fishes is another attraction of this place. Regional Science Centre has preserved a number of important and rare instruments, machinery and documents that can help understand science to the students. It is a very popular place in the city that welcomes a number of visitors every year.
Winter is the best time to visit Guwahati. The days are cold and the nights are chilling. Summer is a good time to visit as well. Days are hot while the evening are pleasant. It rains a lot during the monsoons, and therefore this season should be avoided.
VISITING HOURS:
Regional Science Centre, Guwahati remains open for visitors from 9-30am to 6-00pm every day, except on ‘Holi’ and ‘Diwali’. Counter closes at 5:30pm.
Located in the Khanapara area of Guwahati, the regional science centre can be easily reached by any local means of transportation.
